On October 17, 2015, University Alliance of the Belt and Road (UAB&R), jointly established by 47 universities from 8 countries, including Lanzhou University (LZU), Fudan University, Beijing Normal University, Ural State University of Economics of Russia, etc., was founded in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, and reached an agreement named Dunhuang Consensus. Guided by the vision of "Connectivity, Openness, Inclusiveness, Innovation and Cooperation", Dunhuang Consensus aims to forge a common community for higher education, promotes all-round communication and cooperation among countries and universities along the Road in education, technology and culture and serves to the eco-social development of the countries and regions along the Road. Up till now, the Alliance held 8 themed forums in Dunhuang in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and in Lanzhou in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024, during which the UAB&R regulation was worked out to extend further communication and cooperation. By now, it hosts 188 member universities from 29 countries (regions). LZU is the Secretariate of UAB&R.
