From May 7 to May 9, 2026, a delegation led by Say Sok Kwan, vice president of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), visited Lanzhou University (LZU). On the morning of May 8, LI Xun, vice president of LZU, met with the foreign guests on the university’s Chengguan Campus.

LI Xun welcomed the delegation. He introduced LZU’s history, academic features, and research achievements in the medical field, with a special focus on the university’s strengths in public health and nutrition. He noted that China and Malaysia are joining hands to build a high-level community with a shared future, which provides an important opportunity for deepening educational cooperation. Food hygiene and nutrition concern people’s well-being and represent an area where the two universities’ academic strengths highly converge. The cooperation between the two universities is pragmatic and promising. He hopes to integrate their respective academic advantages to jointly set an example of cooperation between the two countries, and to expand cooperation through platforms such as the University Alliance of the Belt and Road (UAB&R), continuously adding new elements to the educational and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Say Sok Kwan thanked LZU for its warm hospitality. She stated that TAR UMT was founded by the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and has close ties with Chinese culture. It shares a common language and close bonds with China, giving it natural advantages in educational cooperation with China. TAR UMT attaches great importance to its partnership with LZU. The two universities have their own distinctive strengths in applied science and public health. She hopes that both sides would work together to explore new areas for cooperation such as faculty and student exchanges, academic seminars, and industry synergy, moving the partnership toward a more substantive stage.
